JG & The Ultimates
Feb 9 @ 8:00 pm – Feb 10 @ 1:00 am

We’re thrilled to invite JG & the Ultimates back to The Rivoli on February 9th 2019. This truly rockin’ rhythm & blues band is fronted by guitarist, Jay Gipson. Jay has been performing now for 30 years in a variety of bands, guises & genres.

“It wasn’t until I began to play at the many vintage events that I discovered there was this whole community of people who danced jive, lindy and swing and were also so enthused and dedicated to the ‘Vintage’ sound, dance, era & lifestyle.”

Says Jay, “I’ve always loved ‘blues, jazz & soul’ of all kinds and it’s what I’ve listened to and been into the most since I first picked up a guitar. But it wasn’t until I began to play at the many vintage events that I discovered there was this whole community of people who danced jive, lindy and swing and were also so enthused and dedicated to the ‘Vintage’ sound, dance, era and lifestyle.”

The music and style of ‘JG & the Ultimates’ is immersed in the retro sounds of the 50’s & 60’s but with a strong leaning towards the bluesy side of rock & roll, jump blues & R&B. The band comprises seasoned musicians who also have played and play for a long list of other well known artists including the Drifters, The Four Tops, Mike Sanchez, The Glen Miller Orchestra, Laura B, The Drugstore Cowboys, Si Cranstoun, Dexter Shaw, West Weston, Ray Gelato, Jools Holland Orchestra, JD McPherson and Barrence Whitfield.

Our February Jive Party will feature a beginners’ jive class and DJs to kick off the evening, followed by two sets from the band.

The Revolutionaires
Mar 16 @ 8:00 pm – Mar 17 @ 1:00 am

Jumpin’ Hot 50’s Rhythm n Blues!

Established within the ‘hotbed’ of the North East music scene in the UK, the Revolutionaires power out jumpin’ hot rhythm & blues in their own indomitable hard hitting style. And there’s better place to appreciate this band than The Rivoli Ballroom, with its unique interior and spacious dance floor where you can strut you stuff in true 50’s style.

Over the last decade The Revolutionaires have established themselves on the UK and European Rockin’ circuit, as well as the Blues scene. They have toured extensively both home and abroad, performing at festivals alongside artistes such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Sting, Tom Jones, Hugh Laurie, Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray, Walter Trout, Eric Bibb, Albert Lee, Snake Davis and Dave Edmunds.

Think Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Roy Brown. Then mix in some harder and more aggressive influences from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Duke Robillard, Jools Holland and Mike Henderson – now you’re getting close to the sound.

The band has recorded five CDs to date, containing a collection of Hot Rockin’ R&B tracks. Each CD captures the ‘rawness’ and sheer energy of the band, who like to give their performances a ‘hard-edged’ vibe!

So ‘get yourself down’ to the Rivoli on June 16th, ’cause, in the words of the Ronnie Molleen tune…

….” We’ll be rockin’ up a storm tonight! “

Jive DJs, a beginner’s jive class, 2 licenced bars and the amazing interior of the Rivoli add to the enjoyment of the night.
